It is proposed to create a hub and spoke Centre of Excellence which draws together the capabilities of the education, training and research institutions and provides an integrated resource to the healthcare providers.
The hub in Katherine would provide core education and training resources which would be shared by a range of education, training and research institutions. This would include the administrative functions of each institution (possibly shared), meeting and tutorial space with video-conference capability and potentially clinical training infrastructure such as simulation.
The hub would also host a range of administrative services and programmes for the region. These might include coordination of research, coordination of training placements and a range of workforce initiatives such as the facilitation of education and training pathways for local people.
Accommodation in Katherine for students, trainees, teachers and researchers could also be owned, administered or coordinated by the hub, recognising that significant accommodation already exist under various ownership.
